Champions Chairman to advise Minister

Champions of the Bush chairman John Brown has welcomed the opportunity to provide strategic advice to the Victorian Government as part of a new Regional Development Advisory Committee.

Mr Brown, the chairman and former CEO of Brown Brothers Wines at Milawa, is one of six appointees to the committee which will report directly to Minister for State and Regional Development John Brumby.

"Part of the new committee's role is to promote rural and regional Victoria as a great place to live, work and invest," Mr Brown said.

"Champions of the Bush is pursuing similar goals and I am looking forward to working with the committee and senior government officials on initiatives to showcase the opportunities in provincial Victoria."

Mr Brown said the government's willingness to listen to people in regional areas was an important step towards improving services and securing a prosperous future for country communities.

"It's vital that governments at all levels listen to the people who are affected the most by decisions which are made by politicians and bureaucrats," Mr Brown said.

"Along with the other committee members, I am looking forward to providing constructive feedback on regional development opportunities throughout provincial Victoria.

"Part of the challenge in promoting regional lifestyles is making sure we back up our claims with excellent services and facilities for people and businesses when they make the move to the bush. We must keep on improving our regional infrastructure like roads, bridges, health and education services to meet the demands of modern communities.

"I am confident that the Regional Development Advisory Committee will provide good input into government on opportunities to make provincial Victoria an even better place to work and invest."
