Regions to 'cash in' on marketing campaign

Local Government and regional business owners have been urged to 'cash in' on the State Government's $1.3 million marketing campaign to promote lifestyle and business opportunities in regional areas.

Champions of the Bush Chairman John Brown from Brown Brothers Wines at Milawa, says the state-wide marketing campaign is a chance for country businesses to advertise job vacancies or showcase business and lifestyle opportunities in their local areas.

"The State Government is setting the scene with a large scale advertising campaign in Melbourne and it would be timely for other organisations to step up their own promotional activities," Mr Brown said.

"Local Government economic development staff should make sure they are ready to handle any queries from prospective new residents or investors and at the same time, businesses could advertise any job vacancies that have been hard to fill in the past."

"There are vacancies for skilled workers in a variety of industries throughout provincial Victoria and the current marketing program might spark some renewed interest from qualified people considering a change of lifestyle."

"Now is the time to step up our collective advertising and promotional activities to take full advantage of the campaign launched by the State Government."

Mr Brown, who is also a member of the Regional Development Advisory Committee, said there was growing momentum for people to consider the opportunities to live, work and invest in regional Victoria. "Through my work in the wine industry and other activities I get the sense that regional Victoria is the flavour of the month in many areas," Mr Brown said.

"More people are seeking the better balance between work and lifestyle that only country communities can offer. There is something for everyone in provincial Victoria and this is the perfect time for anyone considering a move to take the next step."

"At the other end of the spectrum, it's important that existing residents in regional areas extend the warm welcome we are renowned for and help any newcomers to quickly settle into rural life."
